A lot of you have approached me regarding various logistical issues about the China Exposure Visit. This section will help answer many of your questions regarding our travel. More information will be added as we get closer to the travel date.
Travel from Mussoorie to Delhi (Fri, May 25th) - The Academy is making arrangements for everyone to book a train or travel on their own by car. Please make sure you have signed the form that is being circulated. Almost everyone will be traveling by train to Delhi on Friday.
Lodging in Delhi - We have been informed that all the participants will be making their own housing arrangements in Delhi and that almost everyone will be staying in their State Guest Houses. Please make sure that you find a place to store your extra luggage that you don't need in China. Remember that you will only be allowed to check one bag with a maximum weight of 20kg. This is a restriction for all internal flights within China. You will be able to have more luggage on the flight from Shanghai to Delhi.
Travel from Delhi to Beijing (Sat, May 26th) - DoPT has booked you on a flight that leaves at 23:15. Please make sure to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the flight so that you have plenty of time to clear customs and get to your gate. The airport will be very busy at this time since most international flights leave Delhi between 22:00 and 01:00. The flight will connect through Hong Kong. We do not have any plans while we are in Hong Kong. You can find more information about the Hong Kong airport by clicking on the following link http://www.hongkongairport.com. We will arrive in Beijing at 16:00 on May 27th. Everyone will be responsible for checking and claiming their own bag. Busses will be waiting to take us to CNSA.
You may want to purchase a calling card to use while you are in China. One company has been recommended - http://www.v-tel.com/.
Beijing to Shanghai (Sun, June 3rd) - We will depart from the Beijing Domestic Airport at 12:55 and will arrive in Shanghai at 15:10. Buses will take us directly from CNSA to the airport and CELAP will have buses waiting for us in Shanghai. Everyone will be responsible for checking and claiming their own bag.
Shanghai to Delhi (Sun, June 10th) - We will depart from the Shanghai Pudong Airport at 22:00 and will arrive in Delhi at 04:50 on June 11th. A bus will take everyone from CELAP to the airport. Everyone will be responsible for checking and claiming their own bag.
Lodging & Transport in Delhi - We have been informed that all the participants will be making their own housing arrangements in Delhi and that almost everyone will be staying in their State Guest Houses. We have also been informed that participants will be making their individual travel arrangements. Please make your own housing arrangements as soon as possible.
